Road Surfacing

We have been the beneficiaries of some extra funding to Kent Highways and have seen some of the rural roads heading out to Hougham and Alkham Valley repaired and resurfaced, in addition potentially hazardous areas have been highlighted with a special coloured surface for safety reasons. If you have noticed any potholes or surface damage you can contact the warden or Kent highways direct on 08458 247800 – www.kent.gov.uk/highways

Waste collector vans

Thank you to those who have supplied information on ‘scrap vans’ cruising the village. Trading standards and Kent Police have collated and acted on information received and I have noticed a marked drop in activity and related problems from these vehicles in Capel. However as the price of all metals remain very high please stay vigilant and if it is possible and safe to do so please take the vehicle registration, time and any descriptions and I will forward it to Kent trading standards for verification.

In Touch and Handy van

These services for older residents can help with minor repairs around the house for a small fixed fee as well as fitting door chains, new locks and smoke detectors free of charge. Please contact the warden for further details.

Computer scam

Villagers have been targeted with a computer scam. ‘PC online care’ and ‘network technologies’ have been contacting people by phone saying they can speed up your Microsoft system. Do not follow their directions to press buttons on your computer or give them any card or bank details or you will end up losing your settings, data and money.

Change of Warden

The KCC Community Warden Service has been considering ways to be more efficient within the communities we serve, to increase partnership working and extend our presence across the County. Each District/Borough/City Council will have a dedicated team of KCC Community Wardens which will include a KCC Community Warden Supervisor and a Support warden. The Support Warden will be deployable on a flexible basis to respond to issues highlighted by our partners, cover vacancies within the warden team and at times work in communities that do not have a nominated warden.

I will be moving to Shepway to take up the position of Support warden in that area, which means the village will be getting a new KCC Community Warden, Chantal Blythe. I can’t thank you all enough for the support you have shown me over the past eight years, I really do feel part of the Capel family and will miss you all greatly. I am sure Chantal will pick up the reigns and be a continued support to the village. The personnel changes are due to take place sometime in June, the phone number for the Capel warden will stay the same.
